Musim Mas believes that a holistic and integrated approach by the whole company has to be taken to achieve sustainability. As the first Indonesian member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), Musim Mas is committed to supporting and using the RSPO Principles and Criteria for Sustainable Palm Oil Production (RSPO P&C) as the basis of managing the enterprise sustainably.

While Musim Mas has already put in place many sound practices in the cultivation and production of palm oil that are consistent with the principles of sustainable agriculture and production, the top management of Musim Mas decided that a more concerted and coordinated effort needs to be taken throughout the Group to ensure that all operations are fully compliant with the RSPO P&C. Towards this goal, the President Director officially launched the Musim Mas initiative on management for sustainability in February, 2007.

Management of Sustainability at Musim Mas involves the deployment of a group policy on sustainability, through:

• A Management system based on RSPO P&C,
• A dedicated management structure and
• A phased implementation of sustainability has been rolled out throughout the enterprise. At present two palm oil mills and six estates in the Province of Riau with a total of 23,917 hectares have been certified by RSPO. PT Musim Mas is working towards a full certification of all its business units by 2014.
