What is RSPO?

The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a multi-stakeholder organization that has developed a certification scheme for sustainable palm oil.

All RSPO-certified members must comply with the RSPO standards, a set of stringent standards governing sustainable palm oil production, such as the RSPO Principles and Criteria (P&C), RSPO Supply Chain Certification Standard (SCCS), or RSPO Independent Smallholder Standard.

The RSPO aims to promote the growth and use of responsibly sourced palm oil.

Our Journey Towards an RSPO-Certified Palm Oil Supply Chain

As RSPO members, we are committed to the RSPO certification process. We actively ensure compliance with and enhance sustainability standards through engagement in various avenues, including the RSPO Board of Governors, roundtable meetings, and collaborative working groups.

Musim Mas was the first company in Indonesia to join the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) when it was established in 2004 and remains an active member. In 2009, we were the first plantation in Indonesia to achieve RSPO certification. Notably, in 2012, Musim Mas was Indonesia’s first palm oil major to achieve 100% certification for all plantations and palm oil mills against the RSPO P&C.

As part of our Roadmap to Responsible Supply Base 2025, we have a target to have 100% of our mills be RSPO-certified by 2025, and are currently on track to achieving this target. Out of 18 mills, our 15 mills integrated with plantations are fully certified against the RSPO Principles and Criteria (P&C). Beyond our own operations, we also support independent smallholders achieve RSPO certification.

Musim Mas adheres to relevant RSPO requirements for new developments and the expansion of plantation areas. We are committed to zero conversion of the natural ecosystems within our operations, particularly in high conservation value (HCV) areas, peatlands, and high carbon stock (HCS) forests. We also respect and uphold the human rights of all community members and obtain Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) before any development or expansion of our operations. All new development plans are reviewed against the RSPO New Planting Procedure (NPP) and its requirements.
