At Musim Mas, education is a foundation for opportunity, dignity, and long-term resilience — for our people and the communities around our operations. On International Day of Education, 24 January, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that children and young people, especially those living in and around our plantations and facilities, have access to safe, inclusive, and quality education.

Across our vast operations — including in remote plantation areas — we work to remove barriers to education for our employees’ families and surrounding communities, while upholding children’s rights and supporting national education priorities.

Education Across Our Operations

Many of our workers and their families live in or near plantations where access to public education can be limited. To address this, Musim Mas has invested directly in education infrastructure and services that serve both employees’ children and children from surrounding communities. Today, Musim Mas operates:

  • 47 childcare centres
  • 11 kindergartens
  • 11 primary schools
  • 3 secondary schools

These facilities provide early childhood care, preschool education, and formal schooling for thousands of children. They also create employment opportunities for local teachers and education staff, strengthening community livelihoods.

As of 2024, we established that over 12,200 workers’ children living in and around our estates are of school-going age. Of these, 97.9% are enrolled in schools, either at Musim Mas–supported schools or nearby public schools.

To further reduce access barriers, we provide free transportation and actively encourage parents to enrol their children in our schools or other nearby education facilities.

Supporting Education Through Scholarships

Beyond infrastructure, we support educational progression through financial assistance. In 2024, Musim Mas awarded 98 scholarships to deserving students, helping them continue their education and build pathways to future opportunities.

We believe that education plays a critical role in improving livelihoods and breaking cycles of poverty — particularly for children growing up in plantation environments.

Education, Children’s Rights, and Child Labour Prevention

Children’s rights are an important topic for Musim Mas. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy on child labour across all our international operations.

Our approach to child labour prevention is multifaceted. Access to quality education is a key pillar, alongside strong governance, clear policies, and regular monitoring. By ensuring that children are in school — and that families are supported through family-friendly workplace policies — we help reduce the risk factors associated with child labour.

Promoting Education Beyond Our Operations

Childcare in rural Indonesia

We have long supported education as a cornerstone of community development through our corporate social responsibility initiatives. We focus on providing equal and free access to quality schooling for children living. Through this work, education becomes a shared platform for community development — benefiting workers’ families, neighbouring villages, and future generations.

In Singapore, we contributed to the launch of a bursary initiative at a preschool, Sparkletots@ Joo Chiat, enabling children from underprivileged families to access early childhood education.

Our education-related support also extends to mental well-being. Through the Majurity Trust’s Musim Mas Blue Star Fund, we support 10 non-profits and charities that provide mental health services for youth and children. These programmes include counselling, education initiatives, research, and public awareness efforts.

External Recognition of Our Commitment

Our commitment to children’s rights and education has been recognised externally. In the Global Child Forum Benchmark 2025, placing among the top 10 companies since 2023, and improving our score to 9.4 out of 10. We achieved perfect scores in the Governance & Collaboration and Workplace categories.

This recognition reflects our strong governance practices, family-friendly workplace policies, strategic partnerships, and alignment with international child rights frameworks.

Looking Ahead

On International Day of Education, we recognise that education is not a one-off intervention, but a long-term responsibility. As we continue to grow and operate across diverse geographies, we remain committed to investing in education for our employees, their families, and the communities around us — ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn, thrive, and reach their full potential.
