Mighty Earth RRR30 alleged that YP Plantation Sdn Bhd cleared a total of 1,807 hectares of peat and a total of 1,216 hectares were prepared for clearing (stacking lines) inside their concession between 21 January 2019 – 19 June 2020.

The report further mentioned Sime Darby’s Jabor Palm Oil Mill and iKHASAS Group (Sri Jelutung mill) have been sourcing FFB from YP Plantation Sdn Bhd.

Musim Mas does not have direct business relationship with YP Plantation Sdn Bhd. Hence the engagement is carried out through Sime Darby and Sri Jelutung Palm Oil Mill as the direct buyers of YP Plantation Sdn Bhd.
Based on Sime Darby and Sri Jelutung Palm Oil Mill engagement with YP Plantation Sdn Bhd, we were informed the following:

  1. YP Plantation Sdn Bhd clarified that they have received approval from the local authorities and have adhered to the state regulations before developing said area. Additionally, they have also conducted the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and have received approval from Department of Environment.
  2. YP Plantation Sdn Bhd explained that as they are committed towards sustainable production of oil palm, the Board of YP Plantation Sdn Bhd has therefore on 17 August 2020 issued a stop-work order on the development of peat in the Gugusan Bebar concession in Pekan Pahang of 4,093.95 hectare. The Board has also approved the implementation of an NDPE policy on all plantations owned by YP Plantation Sdn Bhd.

Musim Mas will continue to monitor the progress of YP Plantation Sdn Bhd regarding this issue.
