Musim Mas Inaugural Inclusion in CDP’s prestigious ‘A-List,’ Recognized with a Double ‘A’ Score for Transparency on Forests and Water Security
Indonesia, 9 February 2024 – Today, Musim Mas announces that it has been recognized for environmental leadership in corporate transparency and performance on forests and water security by global environmental non-profit CDP, securing a place on its annual ‘A List’.
The Group celebrates its inaugural inclusion in the esteemed ‘A List’, a significant acknowledgment of Musim Mas’ dedicated sustainability endeavours to combat deforestation and its notable strides toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 throughout its value chain. Musim Mas has been disclosing against CDP for Climate Change since 2017, and Water and Forests since 2018, and our scores have been improving steadily since then. This year, out of 21,000 companies assessed, Musim Mas is among the few that achieved a double ‘A’ score based on data reported through CDP’s 2023 Forests and Water Security questionnaires. The Group maintained its ‘B’ scoring for Climate Change questionnaire this year.
Recently, Musim Mas proudly announced its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, underscoring its dedication to aligning with climate science, as per the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). In alignment with the Group’s commitment to sustainability and the urgent need to combat climate change, Musim Mas, along with 13 other Agri-commodities companies, has joined the Agriculture Sector Roadmap to 1.5 Degrees, facilitated by the Tropical Forest Alliance. This collective initiative aims to halt commodity-linked deforestation, aligning with the 1.5-degree pathway.
Since the inception of Musim Mas’ No Deforestation, No Peat, and No Exploitation (NDPE) Policy in 2014, Musim Mas has diligently monitored its own operations, ensuring they remain 100% free from deforestation and ecosystem conversion. Setting a precedent in the palm oil industry, Musim Mas was the first major Group to commit to extending methane capture facilities to all their mills. The captured methane is efficiently converted into electricity, powering mill and estate facilities, workers’ housing, and social amenities.
“We are truly honored to be recognized for our commitment to transparency and sustainability by earning a spot on CDP’s prestigious ‘A List.’ This achievement underscores Musim Mas’ unwavering dedication to combatting deforestation and ensuring water security while advancing toward our ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. We will continue to work hard, and strive towards achieving ‘A’ scoring for Climate Change.” Olivier Tichit, Director of Sustainability.
