Launch of Extension and Supporting Programs for Palm Oil Plantation in Pelalawan District

The Regional Government of Pelalawan District launched an extension program and assistance for oil palm planters on February 19, 2019, in Pelalawan district, Riau. This program aims to encourage increased palm oil productivity with the principle of sustainable intensification. Through this program, it is expected that 2,000 Farmers will receive Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Training, be ready for ISPO certification and be eligible for the Smallholders Replanting Program (PSR) program.... more

Social Forestry Made Priority Program For Collaborative and Sustainable Management of Sambas Landscape

Sambas, West Kalimantan – Today, 8 November 2019, around 60 participants representing government, industry, head of villages and Village Forest Management Institution (Lembaga Pengelola Hutan Desa (LPHD)) gathered in Sambas City to follow up on former multistakeholder workshop in August. Social Forestry becomes one of the efficient approaches to promote multistakeholder collaborative implementation in Sambas Landscape as well as to provide opportunities for village communities’ economic improvement. Besides the multistakeholder forum, exhibition of social forestry products on 8 – 10 November is expected to open wider market access. Palm Oil Industry to Jointly Develop Radar Monitoring Technology to Detect Deforestation

A coalition of ten major palm oil producers and buyers are collaborating to support and fund the development of a new, publicly available radar-based forest monitoring system known as Radar Alerts for Detecting Deforestation (RADD). This partnership between Bunge, Cargill, Golden Agri-Resources (GAR), Mondelēz International, Musim Mas, Nestlé, Pepsico, Sime Darby Plantation, Unilever and Wilmar will make it much easier for companies and other stakeholders to see deforestation happening in near-real-time and with greater accuracy. With this information, they can more quickly mobilize follow-up actions on the ground and work to improve the sustainability of commodity supply chains.... more
