European Renewable Energy Directive (EU RED)

A European Union legislation which mandates that greenhouse gas emissions from the production and use of biofuels must be at least 35% lower than those from fossil fuels. In 2017, this marker will rise to 50%. Biofuels cannot be produced using raw materials from land with high biodiversity value or carbon stock.
